UNCT Syria Newsletter Highlights Progress in Recovery, Service Delivery and Community Resilience
The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Syria has released its June-July 2026 Newsletter, showcasing key achievements made through strong collaboration between the Government of Syria, UN agencies, development partners and local communities. The period was marked by significant progress in recovery, institutional strengthening and expanded access to essential services across the country.
A major milestone featured in this edition was the first official visit of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to Syria from 25 to 27 July 2026. During the visit, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the UN's commitment to supporting an inclusive, sustainable and Syrian-led transition and recovery process. Meetings with government officials, civil society representatives, women leaders and community members highlighted the importance of participation, accountability, reconciliation and social cohesion.
The newsletter also highlights progress across multiple sectors:
- Recovery and infrastructure projects restored critical transport links, water systems, electricity networks and urban services, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people.
- Health and protection programmes expanded access to lifesaving care, reproductive health services, mental health support and safe spaces for women and girls.
- Food security and livelihood initiatives helped farmers restore agricultural production, improve resilience and strengthen local economies.
- Education and capacity-building efforts supported teachers, healthcare workers, institutions and public administration reform.
- Mine action programmes increased community safety while enabling agricultural recovery and infrastructure rehabilitation.
The newsletter also shares inspiring stories of resilience from communities across Syria, demonstrating how investments in recovery, social protection, livelihoods and essential services are helping families rebuild their lives and strengthen hope for the future.
