2024 Country Results Report

In 2024, Syria entered a critical transition period following the fall of the Assad regime. While the change offers new pathways for inclusive governance and recovery, the country continues to face overwhelming humanitarian and development challenges. Over 17 million people needed assistance, with 90% of the population living in poverty and infrastructure heavily damaged.

Under the UN Strategic Framework (2022–2025), the UN Country Team (UNCT) supported millions of people across Syria through a coordinated response aligned with humanitarian needs and early recovery priorities.

Four Strategic Pillars of Action:

1️⃣ Basic and Social Services
✔️ 4.1M people accessed health, nutrition, WASH, and education services
✔️ 1.9M children supported with formal/non-formal education
✔️ 1,000 classrooms rehabilitated
✔️ Over 7.8M health consultations delivered

2️⃣ Sustainable Socio-Economic Recovery
✔️ 35,000 households supported with assets for food production
✔️ Vocational and entrepreneurship training for vulnerable groups
✔️ Rehabilitation of agricultural infrastructure

3️⃣ Enabling Environment for Resilient Return
✔️ Support for returnees with legal aid, civil documentation, and housing
✔️ Livelihood initiatives in return areas
✔️ Syria’s first Humanitarian Explosive Ordnance Disposal course conducted

4️⃣ People Resilience and Institutional Responsiveness
✔️ Expanded protection and mental health services for vulnerable groups
✔️ Institutional support to ministries and local governance systems
✔️ Focus on inclusive governance, gender equality, and climate resilience
