UNDP SUPPORTS GREEN RECOVERY THROUGH SOCIAL ENTERPRISES IN DEIR-EZ-ZOR
The Green Recovery project supported by UNDP aims to enhance the role of social enterprises as an effective tool offering sustainable solutions to support green recovery across Syria.
In Deir-ez-Zor, 57 people received support through the Green Recovery project, which enabled 17 businesses to advance and contribute to reducing pollution and promoting environmental recovery. More >>
UNFPA LAUNCHES “GIRL SHINE PROGRAMME” IN NORTH-EAST SYRIA
On 10 June, UNFPA, in cooperation with the Syrian nongovernmental organization Al Yamama Foundation, inaugurated the "Girl Shine Programme" in Al-Raqqa City in north-east Syria. The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of adolescent girls and service providers to prevent and respond to violence against young girls aged 10-19 years. The Programme will also provide the girls with indispensable life skills and essential knowledge related to gender-based violence. More >>
ON 20 JUNE UNHCR MARKES WORLD REFUGEE DAY IN SYRIA
On this year’s World Refugee Day (20 June), UNHCR Syria organized a variety of activities across the country with refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and other countries.
UNHCR’s team gathered with refugees, partners and staff where they had a talent show, bazar and activities for children. Over 700 refugees participated in fun and sports events highlighting the importance of coexistence and the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country. More>>
UNICEF SUPPORTS EDUCATION VIA DIGITAL LEARNING PROGRAMMES
UNICEF is reaching earthquake-affected children with its learning cinema. The initiative aims to reach children in crisis and in places where education infrastructure has been damaged. The learning cinema is provided by trained teachers equipped with a laptop, a projector and a portable alternative power source. The teaching relies on screening videos and facilitating interactive activities to reinforce students’ learning and provide them with much-needed psychosocial support. More>>
UNRWA WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR PALESTINE REFUGEES IN SYRIA
The Director for UNRWA Affairs in Syria, Amanya Michael-Ebye, reflected on the 12 years of conflict and multiple hardships for Palestine Refugees in the Brussels conference on Syria as he called on the EU and the international community for support. UNRWA provides essential services to some 438,000 Palestine Refugees who remain in the country. More>>
FAO PROMOTES GBV AWARENESS THROUGH FARMER FIELD SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
FAO has launched a new cycle of Farmer Field Schools in five governorates across Syria, as part of the “Building Local Resilience in Syria” project, funded by the United Kingdom. FAO will use its expertise in empowering farmers to achieve better production and improve their income while tackling social issues such as gender-based violence within the targeted farming communities. OCHA FACILITATES THE 11TH CROSS-LINE CONVOY TO NORTH-WEST SYRIA
The 11th cross-line convoy to north-west Syria has successfully delivered humanitarian supplies including food and relief items. This is in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2672 which calls for both cross-line and cross-border assistance. More>>
WFP FORCED TO SCALE DOWN OPERATIONS IN SYRIA
An unprecedented funding crisis in Syria is forcing the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to cut assistance to 2.5 million of the 5.5 million people who rely on the Agency for their basic food needs. The announcement came as the European Union hosted the seventh Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region.” More>>
WHO PARTICIPATES IN BRUSSELS VII CONFERENCE’ SIDE EVENTS
In conjunction with the Brussels VII Conference, WHO, UNFPA and the Republic of Austria co-hosted a virtual side event and discussion panel themed “Working together for a risk-informed, recovered and shock-resilient health system in Syria.” The event discussed the importance of collaboration among different stakeholders and ensuring a ready, responsive and resilient heath system.
